Sample Research Paper on Web Servers

Introduction

A web server can be the program that uses the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) to serve. It serves files that form the web pages that –people use. It delivers content or services to the users who use the internet. It should have a physical server, an operating system and also a program that facilitates the hypertext transfer protocol (Ling, Chen, and Lin 241-258). A web server runs a website by returning files to the HTTP connection. A server that can deliver an XML to another device is simply a web server. Any device that can be used for browsing in particular through the webpages is a web server. A web server is any internet server that responds to HTTP requests and uses them to deliver content and services. Sometimes the term web server can mean hardware depending on the context. It can refer to the computer that is being used to serve. It can also be called an internet server.

Administration of Web Servers

Web administrators enable users to create their user accounts on websites and choose the best fitness tracker for the user. The network administrators are the ones who keep the websites running freely. Keeping them up to date is also the work of web administration. Web security is also administered by the network administration (Silva). They ensure users do not experience any difficulties when using the server.

Types of web servers
  1. Apache web server

It was developed by a group of programmers called Apache software foundation. Apache web server consists of an open source program that can be installed and can work with almost every operating system including Linux, Unix and much more. Apache was developed by a group of programmers. Its first software was developed in 1995 (“Guidelines For Securing Apache Web Servers” 8-14). Since then its development has been closely monitored by a group of about 20 programmers who volunteered to look into its evolution. This source is freely available, and it can be adapted for specific needs to the user.

  1. Apache Tomcat

It’s another type of web server that has been developed to support servlets and java server pages. Tomcat commonly used with the typical Apache HTTP web server or any other alternative web server. It’s an open source, and it’s free to run.

  1. Microsoft’s Internet information windows server

It has been developed by the most popular window providers Microsoft. Microsoft is a giant company in this field and once more it provides software that can offer better performance and security than the companies before it. Amongst the most popular servers existing, Microsoft comes second which is a clear indication of its performance.

  1. Nginx web server

It hosts a good percentage of all the most popular domains in the world. That alone can speak for it, how good it is and how its performance is. It’s a free open source that is stable and has very simple configurations and low usage of resources. It uses predictable amounts of memory that is put under load due to its much more scalable architecture that is event driven. Its server does not use threads to handle requests.

  1. Klone

It’s simply a web server for creating static and much more dynamic web pages. It provides its services in a much easier way. It can also serve as an SDK. It can serve well with appliances. It’s a good multiplatform that is fully featured framework that is targeted for embedded systems and devices. It has the small footprint, multiple content suppliers and its more secure because has a permissive BSD license.

  1. Abyss web server

It runs in almost all popular programs in the world. It has different editions like the personal one that is free while the professional one goes for around $60. Its interface is multilingual remote web management. It has the most secure connection which includes password protection and much more.

  1. Oracle web tier

It’s quick in serving and is easier in the handling of even the most wanting traffic online. This is because it has two server options with reverse proxy and the second one being caching solutions.

  1. Zeus web server

Its runs on some operating systems including Linux and many others. This technology has been developed by a company by the name Zeus technology limited it’s not free and costs a lot much more. It’s fast, reliable, secure and much more flexible. It’s used in most of the world’s busiest sites.

  1. X5 web server

It’s the latest generation web server currently that is using the company’s technology that gives it its ability to multithread. Its ability makes it scalable to multicores. It handles thousands of connections without experiencing any level of difficult thus it becomes very useful in some processes like polling where clients extend their open connections.

Conclusion

A web server does some things that help users have any experience they usually when visiting the internet. As noted earlier, web servers can be even the appliances that we were using or any device that can help one to get online and view web pages. This is because without a web server then one cannot have a net.
