Sample Research Paper on Causes and Effects of Terrorism

Terrorism is a terminology that has been trending on news more often from all over the
world. It is now perceived to be an international problem whose solution is far to be found. The
international community has since combined efforts in order to eliminate the assailants and thus
restore the tranquility that came along with absence of such crimes. In light of this situation, this
essay briefly looks into some causes and the adverse effects of terrorism.
There are many factors that have contributed to the growth of this challenging affair. To
start with, social and political prejudices; Research has shown that some people join terror
groups or undertake terror activities to fight social or political injustices, in the aim of recouping
what they perceive to have been stripped off from them (Crenshaw, 2011). This could be
entitlements or possessions such as land.
Secondly, social economic factors such as poverty and illiteracy have greatly enhanced
terrorism (Franks, 2006). Research has shown that people under such circumstances are prone to
radicalization through monitory incentives rewarded.
Additionally, religious beliefs have greatly been reported to have had a hand in enhancing
terror acts (Franks, 2006). It is however important to point out that religions themselves do not
carry out terrorism, but divisions within a religion are known to have caused terror attacks
through punishing those perceived to have ungodly acts.
After terror acts have been carried out, adverse effects take place. To begin with, there is
loss of lives (Crenshaw, 2011). Assailants use harmful methods to carry out these acts such as
throwing explosions and use of live firearms thus, killing and leaving many injured. Many
families and relatives of the casualties are affected making the impact of the attacks to be felt
significantly.
