E1. Matters Limiting the Effectiveness of the Team and How They Can Be Addressed
A team works together for a common purpose (Cummings, & Haas, 2012). Cummings, &
Haas (2012) assert that, while in most cases teams are made up of people with related skills that
enhance smooth collaboration, team members may exhibit other factors that might hinder the
efficiency of the team. Our team is affected by various such factors that the team leaders seek to
mitigate for the maximum performance of the team. One of the common challenges is inadequate
communication. More often than not, team members may become less aware of the roles they
play and some tasks may be duplicated (Bordessa, 2012). Confusion over what should be done
before our next meeting may also arise as members engage in other college activities. To counter
the impacts that may arise from communication challenges, the team leader emphasizes the use
of technology. Modern technology has provided various platforms where the team members can
meet virtually on daily basis and get a clarification on roles and duties that are expected of them.
Communication challenges may also arise from the accent challenges that face our multiracial
team but has had a little impact on the performance. The team leader timely communicates via
our online platforms what is expected of each of the team members.
More often than not, arguments arising from disputes emerge within the team over role-
related issues (Bordessa, 2012). The timing for the completion of activities performed can be
contested raising arguments or conflict within the group. To prevent such confrontations with the
members, our team leader has developed an assessment plan that allocates roles to team
members based on individual strength. Also, perfect leadership is a challenge to any team. We
carry out frequent leadership assessments as a team and see where our team leader is failing to
ensure that a maximum command of respect is achieved and avoid overall inadequate team

performance. We recognize our team leader as the glue that binds the team together and prevents
the group’s disintegration.
Weak links among team members are considered a high-level cause of inefficiency of
teams (Bordessa, 2012). The end goals link the members of a team to each other. Both new and
experienced members of our team are considered vital for the overall team performance and thus
establishing links with them is always an integral role of each team member. Members are also
encouraged to link up with one another on online platforms where virtual meeting and any other
business affecting the group is discussed with openness.
