Among the expected achievements of Yoga is Relaxation. This is an emotional state in humans, characterized by low tension, and absence of arousal, which is usually as a result of anxiety, fear, and anger.

This practice contributes to balanced energy in the body, which aids the functioning of a healthy immune system. Also, through yoga there is inhibition of the sympathetic region of the hypothalamus which is responsible for optimization of the body`s sympathetic reactions to stressful stimuli and restoration of autonomic reflex mechanisms which are key drives to relaxation. Yoga also has the ability to inhibit areas that can give rise to aggressiveness, rage, and fear, and stimulate attainment of a state of pleasure and bliss. This inhibition is associated with, lower blood pressure, anxiety, respiratory rate, cardiac output, and heart rate in individuals practicing the Yoga practices. Therefore, achieving the above body states one could have a worry free mind, with minimized thinking, which are aspects of relaxation.

Consistent yoga exercises lead to improved flexibility in a person`s body. This continuous practice is responsible for loosening of connective tissues around the bones and joints, and muscles. The end achievements are reduced aches and pains in the body. In addition, these practices are associated with muscle mass building which acts as a protective measure for conditions like back pain and arthritis. An individual with loose muscles and connective tissues usually do not strain in handling his/her day-to-day chores and after doing such work, he/she attains a free relaxed state with limited pains and aches.

            Through Yoga one increases blood flow in the body, hemoglobin levels and definitely the number of red blood cells which are responsible for increased oxygen content in the body cells thereby enhancing effective body functionality. An individual is able to be fresh and conscious without issues like tiredness and dizziness, which makes a body to strain, limiting it from achieving a relaxed state. These exercises, also reduces the chances of an individual being exposed to conditions like stroke and the risk of heart attack. Therefore, a body is maintained free from various diseases, giving, and individual a free mind without worries. Hence, through these aspects of yoga one is able to achieve a relaxed state.

            Although stimulations being good to the body, too much of them contain a negative effect to the nervous system, whereby Yoga relieves the body from these excess stimulations and stressors experienced in the hectic nature of life. The body is able to regain from exaggerated issues like fear and anxiety, which limit normal body reactions. Therefore, through Yoga practices one could eliminate the factors of over stimulation that could rather deny him/her attaining a relaxed state.

            In conclusion, a body that is straining physically, cognitively or mentally due to various factors like stress, is susceptible to diseases and other problems like depression and anxiety. Through yoga practices, one is able to manage and relieve stress and related issues, have a free mind, maintain body fitness and ultimately attain a state of relaxation. These practices help individuals thereafter to be calm with an altered state of consciousness. Therefore, yoga practices can help individuals to relax.
