Crew Resource Management came into force in the aviation industry in the year 1979. CRM was enforced to reduce air transport-related accidents by minimizing human errors. The success of this tool and application can be attributed to its value in the enhancement of communication that relies heavily on team decision making. In addition, CRM also took advantage of the technology to make the communication process more efficient (Linda et al., 2007).

Aspects of CRM that are relevant in the nursing profession include system designs capable of absorbing errors by standardization, redundancy, and the use of checklists. Additionally, permanent program institutionalization to assist in risk identification, dissemination, and analysis represents another relevant CRM aspect in nursing. Ddebriefing is also applicable in the nursing profession. However, there are certain aspects of CRM that are not relevant in the nursing profession, and a good example is full immunity assurance, especially while undertaking implementation of non-punitive approaches (Maxfield et al., 2013).

Communication in cross checking is always a difficult task, but when communications are conducted properly, it can be an effective way of finding a lasting solution to a major problem in any organization. One way of communicating cross checking professionally involves approaching the individual concerned and speaking to her/him openly, with the aim of addressing the problem productively (Harvell, 2012). In case the individual is not approachable, it is important to share the problem with a coworker who is in a position to share with the person concerned concerning the problem. Lastly, in case the two approaches are not applicable, it is suitable to approach the manager, who can pursue an appropriate solution through engagement with the individual (Christensen & Larson, 2011)
