The healthcare industry is currently overwhelmed by the need to improve the quality of services and healthcare procedures. The traditional ways of operating among nurses are slowly fading away while ushering a new approach to a more individualized care in the industry. As such, nurses and different professionals within the industry must always be acquainted with the current world through continued learning (Vincent, 2010). My aim is to become a well-suited person in the healthcare industry to serve the emerging needs of the society amicably. This portfolio therefore highlights my accomplishments and abilities to handle various situations at the workplace.
How can healthcare personnel effectively assess the health of a population?
Health assessment is an important aspect of quality improvement of health care in society. The individual must understand the key parameters that affect the health of the intended population or individual through data collection and analysis. Data collection involves observing the lifestyle of the intended population or the use of secondary data to understand the needs of the people. Once the data are collected, the healthcare professional must analyze it suing the available resources and devise a plan to implement the necessary changes for better health care of the people. In advanced cases, an individual will need to monitor the progress of the implemented changes to determine which factors need to be changed for improved health care in the society (Boltz, 2012).
How do policies, regulations, and the use of scientific research in health care affect nursing practice?
Policies help healthcare personnel to improve the quality of health by reducing the cost of care and limiting the number of hospital-acquired infections. Consequently, different regulatory bodies ensure that nurses and other professionals within the industry focus on the main agenda, which is to keep society healthy at all costs. Research has enabled nurses to have a more informed and more focused approach to service delivery. The use of evidence-based practice enables an individual to handle the needs of patients with more certainty, thus improving safety and the quality of health services. Additionally, policies in health care promulgate the available resources of care to the underserved communities around the world (Boltz, 2012). The Center for Medicaid and Medicare services provides ideal policies that help 8underserved communities like the Hispanic community to have essential health care services.
What are your views on communication in the work place?
Communication is vital in healthcare because the safety of patients depends on the ability of professionals within the industry to pass the necessary information from one department to another. As a professional, I ensure open communication between varied professionals to ensure that I offer the patient Quality Health Service. Consequently, working as a team in the healthcare industry goes a long way in improving the quality of health care outcome. When different professionals work together to handle certain concerns of the patients, it eliminates the chances of errors that may occur if people worked independently (Vincent, 2010).
Which concepts of health promotion and disease prevention do you consider important?
Health promotion and disease prevention should be a focused approach that handles specific needs of an individual, a group, or a population. The need of a population determines the best approach to intervention and disease prevention. For instance, most of the minority groups in America face health problems because of poor living standards and financial constraints. Understanding the needs of the society gives the nurse an idea of how to create an ideal intervention that will reach the people of that particular social group (Vincent, 2010). The use of educational programs, events, and other health promotion practices goes a long way in reducing the spread of diseases and promoting health among the minority communities in the United States.
Which is the best approach to nursing practice in the 21st century?
The twenty-first century’s approach to nursing practice requires a holistic approach where the nurse does not just focus on the physical needs of a person, but also focuses on the emotional, spiritual and the cultural needs. Most of the vulnerable communities have strong cultural ties; therefore, the nurse must have essential knowledge of the cultural needs of the people to promote the wellness of the patients. Creating a relationship with the patient goes a long way in promoting their physical health. Additionally, showing appreciation for one’s faith enhances the wellness of the patient (Boltz, 2012).
What qualities, behaviors, skills, and knowledge promote service delivery in health care?
Being able to function effectively without supervision, and having the patient’s interest at heart is essential in nursing care. Consequently, understanding the specific needs of the patient and relating well with the different professionals in the workplace goes a long way in improving the quality of health care service delivery (Boltz, 2012).
In conclusion, the world is changing and so are the needs of people in the world. The healthcare industry faces new challenges every day because of the changing demographics and the growth of technology. Constant learning among nurses will help in the reduction of errors in operations as well as equip nurses with the right knowledge of how to apply research in the nursing practice (Vincent, 2010).
