Development of organizational cultures is the first step to creating satisfactory work environments (McDaniel,1993). Being one of the leadership competencies, nurses require to provide quality patient care and safety in health care environment. Constructive organizational culture ensures that the inordinate amount of money that is spent on medical errors consequently results to reduction of theerrors (Houston, 2010). Organizational culture defines the creation of the health system. Therefore, as a nurse, this is a competency we need to build to ensure that we strike a balance between creating patient-friendly health care system and the healthcare provider’s individual responsibility for the care we provide (Houston, 2010). As a nurse working in an organization with a constructive culture ensures that I develop positive interpersonal relationships, value self-actualization and become an achievement-oriented worker.

Nurse leaders control the largest part of a hospital labor budget. Therefore, nurses helpin budgetary process by taking a proactive data-driven approach to financial management, creating an environment of accountability and self-ownership of financial performance and setting a pace for standards of inclusion and transparency in resource utilization.

Communication Skills Outcome

Communicating effectively with patient populations is one of the outcomes I have learnt. Effective clinical practice involves communicating accurately critical information (Houston, 2010). To provide ethical, high quality care, I have learnt that I must be aware of and respond appropriately to the patient’s cultural beliefs, literacy level and language (Hull, 2007). As an advocacy initiative, I have learnt how to use verbal, written and electronic formats of communication to serve the patient satisfactory. I will use effective interpersonal communication strategies I have gained to both personal and professional settings to reduce stress, promote wellness, and therefore, improve the overall quality of life for the patients (Brinkert, 2010).
