This is a reflective assay, which provides insight of experience I gained from Interprofessional Education (IPE). Attending the workshops for IPE was a great boost in my understanding of the roles of other health professionals in the overall care of my patients, which significantly influenced my patient management. I managed to interact with different student undertaking nursing, speech pathology, and psychology. Meeting with different professional within the healthcare field was a great experience, which increased my knowledge in handling patients. The objectives of this interprofessional learning was to prepare different health professions’ scholars for teamwork with other professionals in healthcare field to a common objective of creating ‘ better patient-centered heath care professionalism. Interprofessional education is a strategic approach to empower healthcare students to become future interprofessional team members.
Patient management is a vital practice that demands better understanding and knowledge in the healthcare field in order to be able to offer reliable services to the patients. Increased demand for health care professionals due to increasing population has caused desperate measures to overcome major disparities. However, the desperate measures taken have led to notable divergence in health care education, which has destroyed the uniformity required. IPE plays a great role in ensuring uniformity in quality of service provided in patient care. This uniformity in healthcare practice ensures reliable services that are given to the patients in order to prevent unnecessary deaths. Inter-professional Education brings together different professional from different learning institutions and work places to share knowledge and experiences in their professions. Actually, there are different roles that each professional plays in healthcare and therefore, forums such as IPE provide suitable platforms for sharing different experiences. In order to be able to deliver high-quality patient care, it is appropriate to involve interprofessional collaboration. This collaboration is made possible by IPE, which offers vital strategies that can be utilized to bring better patient care. IPE provides opportunities to health care students to engage in transformative teamwork with people outside their profession to strengthen their abilities.
Understanding the roles of other health professionals provides motivation on handling critical issues in patient care. Every profession has challenges, which require motivation in order to be able to overcome the challenges. Motivation is acquired through sharing of personal experiences that are vital in overcoming certain challenges. This is done in a workshop platform where different students share their views on different challenges, necessary motivational energy that is vital in practical field. Actually, face to face interaction between different professionals provided more interactive session that is more transformative than theoretical sessions in the class. I realized that within the healthcare branches there are different challenges that are faced by the professionals in handling patients. A member who worked in the Emergency Department shared her experience in the workshop, which encourages other professionals to tackle the challenges bravely. There are patients who demand critical attention and special handling; however, with proper knowledge and good motivation it is easier to handle such cases.
Meeting with different professionals and sharing with them impacts a teamwork personality, which is vital in handling critical assignments. Teamwork in health is vital because of the sensitivity posed by the profession. Training future healthcare professionals to participate in teamwork helps in ensuring better patient care services. Patient care requires wide knowledge from different professional and working in teams can ensure improved and better services to the patients.
Better team building skill that are acquired from interprofessional collaboration in an educative forum such as IPE. Team building skills are vital in handling time oriented programs which are required in handling critical condition in patients care. IPE provides a platform for sharing knowledge, continuous interaction and coordinating necessary efforts among the health care professionals in developing better patient care services.
Attending IPE program increased my patience management and brought a more realistic approach of handling patients. The open approach, whereby different professionals are brought together, equips the members with vital knowledge from other professionals, which is necessary in handling patients. Views from different parties, patients, professionals and community offer a better approach to patience care problems from all angles. Community based experiences simulated with professional experience can brings out a better approach in handling patient care. Community-based experience provides a better experience from the civilians who may not necessarily be in the healthcare fraternity but having vital knowledge on improving patient care.
Patient’s satisfaction is a vital objective that patients’ caregivers intend to achieve and therefore collaborating with other professionals offers great ideas on ensuring patients are satisfied with the services offered. Different approaches on certain issues pertaining heath care are shared from different professional angle in IPE forum. Such forums offer better solutions in handling challenging issues in the patience care services. Making use of other people’s successful experience can increase reliability in healthcare services and ensure patients satisfaction. Definitely, there are professionals who have better experience on handling certain issues and borrowing knowledge from them boosts personal performance.
Impacts of Collaborative Approach on Medical Imaging Technologist
The dynamism of the modern world has led to great changes in the medical field. Several decades ago, it was quite difficult to handle various conditions that demanded surgery in the interior body part. However, with the evolution of technology, Medical Imaging Technology has established a better reason for achieving a more reliable healthcare service. With many innovations that are taking place in Medical Imaging field, reliable health care services are inevitable. However, collaborative approach must be factored in order to achieve the desirable expectation in a little span of time. Through collaborative approaches, it will be easier to merge the necessary efforts that will develop the field to a more reliable technology. Collaboration will help handle challenges that are difficult when handled by a single person. It becomes easier to tackle a challenge on a collaborative approach rather than a personal perspective. Interacting with other professional will probably lead to better innovations and provide necessary knowledge in creating better imaging procedures. Medical imaging Technologist must have better skill in interpreting requests from other medical practitioner in order to attend to patients need. Therefore, collaborating with other professional provides an advantage of understanding vital information that may be required in imaging.
My personal experience in the IPE was quite encouraging and vital in my career. We shared different approaches of handling different kinds of patients including the patients with mental health problems such as stroke and depression. Some members shared best sites in the web where vital information on handling particular patients can be found.
