Introduction

Workplace diversity refers to the difference in cultural, educational, gender, and ethnic differences of the employees and how it creates a positive workplace environment. Numerous workplaces in the modern world are becoming diversified, considering their employees’ backgrounds.  Therefore, there arises some requirements or needs to ensure that the employees from different backgrounds work together in harmony for better performance.  Diversity training will increase consciousness, impart knowledge in addition to educating employees on the ways to acknowledge the differences among their fellow workers.  Companies utilize diversity training to create the best employees and teams. Enhancement of diversity will break down barriers (political, racial, social, and ethnic barriers) for a productive team.

Objectives of Diversity Training
The objectives of the training include:
  1. To understand how diversity influences everyday interactions at the workplace
  2. Providence of information regarding the importance of diverse labor force
  3. Enhance the workers’ appreciation of workplace diversity and valuing diversity

Diversity Problems

Several problems emerge with diversity in the workplace, for example, communication barriers as some employees do not perceive certain languages. Also, some workers may not respond positively to the adjustments made. This perpetrates the challenges involved during the implementation process of workplace diversity necessitating the use of certain strategies for implementation process. Such challenges in managing diversity arise from adoption of wrong techniques when solving diversity problems.

Workplace diversity determines the working atmosphere of a company. Diversity training should apply to all employees regardless of rank, especially the work teams formed in performance of duties. Diverse teams can make or break the organization as their performance is used to gauge the organization’s performance. Communication and effectiveness are directly impacted by management of this diversity. Better diversity management will improve the team’s communication and effectiveness perpetrating creativity in the organization’s task performance. The inclusion of teams in the performance of organizational tasks necessitates the need for diversity training and how best to manage diversity situations.

Instructional initiatives

The training aims to help individual gain knowledge on appreciation of workplace diversity in organizations.  This year’s training will engage the participants in learning the tactics and methods that will encourage and enhance workplace diversity while ensuring higher performance of the organization.  All the participants will be required to take down notes during the lectures. The learners must participate actively in class discussions and presentations. Assignments will be issued regularly for enhancement of the concepts taught. Learners are expected to complete and submit these assignments. The syllabus will provide a guideline for the training to ensure the course objectives are met within the given period.

 

Instructional Strategies

The training will involve group activities. The learners will be divided into groups that will enable them learn more by helping each other through discussions and other group activities during the course. Each group will be assigned some activities to research and carry out. Presentation of their results will be done in class for further discussion.

Timeline

The training is scheduled for two weeks where the participant will are required to attend classes three days a week.  Moreover, each class time is approximately one and half-hours.

The audience for this training program will incorporate university students, employers, faculty members and other employees of the university. Moreover, any interested person is welcome.  The type of training to be applied is the interactive one as it will enable people to share their views and perspectives directly and learn from others. The interactive training type will simulate real-life workplace situations/teams for enhancing the objectives of the diversity training.

Assessment and Evaluation Strategies

The students in this training program will be assessed through exams where conclusions about their understanding will be based. Moreover, projects will be used, and learners’ feedback will be acquired through their submission of a complete research conclusion.  However, limitations that include time and technology may occur. For example, since many of the learners are workers and employees, the creation of class time may be difficult and hence absenteeism.
