Sample Research Paper on Social Media Effects on Real Communication

Social media has influenced many people all over the world in many varieties of ways.
Adolescents and young youths are the primary culprits of the effects of social media. Therefore,
social media has sabotaged the real communication in a more excellently in society. The first
social media got created in 1997, which enabled users to create profiles and make friends with
other users of the site. Andrew Weinreich founded it. Social media is any computer-based
platform, which facilitates the sharing of ideas and information by the building of the virtue
networks. The extensive use of social media gradually influences the communication skills
amongst individuals.
Effects of Social media on Real Communication
Online communication and social media are having huge effects on real communication
skills and social skills among adolescents. During the times before social media, close interaction
was a significant way of communication. However, the interaction gets dominated in online
conversations in today’s era. It influences the individual’s communication skills, such as
maintaining eye contact and the using of gestures (Siddiqui 71-75). As more generations are
emerging in this social age, social media will be the normalcy for communication among young
people. Consequently, social media will harm the proper ability to communicate in person
among peers.
As the young generations continue to use social media, there is the urge to share their
passion and desires with people they barely know than actually creating memories by hanging
out with their friends. As a fact, nothing can replace the interaction and communication of face-
to-face since researchers have found out that word-of-mouth and in-depth face-to-face

SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECTS ON REAL COMMUNICATION
conversations are the most influencing. The access that the young generation has on the internet
and social media mainly has gone very easily. The language has turned lazy, therefore making
individuals not interested in meeting each other in person that excludes chances of having
meaningful and deep conversations. Many individuals hide behind social media rather than
engage in argumentative face-to-face conversations to improve their speaking skills. Poor skills
in speaking impair all of those around making a highly intelligent person seem ineligible in the
job environment. Interviews are a problem for many young generations since they have not yet
exposed to real conversations and communication with other persons.
Social media is continually destroying real communication by turning people as phone
maniacs. Almost every aspect of generation, young and old, involve themselves too much on
cell-phone communication by texting or calling rather than a face-to-face conversation. Success
in the work environment has been dramatically influenced by spending too much on social
platforms rather than the face-to-face communications needed (Carr 46-65). Poor body language
is a significant problem brought by social media. Therefore the young generations may not feel
confident when talking to anyone at any time on face-to-face circumstances.
As social media continues to change the way of interaction among people, many persons
that grew in an era without social media believe that online communication has rendered young
adults have difficulties talking to one another and become less social. However, sites such as
Twitter and Tumblr have made kids, and the young generations have an exciting way of
communicating. Individuals have started losing efficiency in their communication. The bad
impacts of social platform far outweigh the benefits which may be provided to society.
