Redesigning My Worst Job
Instructions: Think about the worst job you have ever had. Then, place yourself in the role of a management consultant and use the Job Characteristics Model to analyze and redesign this job to increase its motivational potential. Maximum length – 5 single-spaced pages, use APA/ MLA for referencing purposes.
Address each of the following in your final report:
- First, describe the job. In your response, address job title, the job duties/ expectations, the job rewards/compensation, and who you worked with to carry out your job duties. (3 points)
- Assess your job using the Job Characteristics model. For this question: first, evaluate your job based on the five-core job characteristics; second, discuss how the characteristics of your job affected the critical psychological states and job outcomes. (21points)
- Finally, based on your knowledge of the organization and the job, discuss how you could redesign the job and address any pertinent contextual factors to improve its motivational potential (15 points).
