Propose your own thesis using historical evidence

Propose your own thesis. Use one of the following three question sets to guide you and be sure to use specific historical evidence to support your views.
1. Thinking about the ways in which the American and French Revolutions were similar but also different, compare and/or contrast the Declaration of Independence with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. Ultimately, are their ideas more similar or more different? Why?
2. Based on what you now know about the French Revolution, why do you think Olympe de Gouges wrote the Rights of Woman and Female Citizen? Which of her demands best shows this and why?
3. Many historians see the Haitian Revolution as part of the French Revolution, yet the issues of race and slavery made it distinct. Based on what you now know about both revolutions, do you think Toussaint Louverture would have said he was fighting for the ideas in the Declaration of the Rights of Man? Why or why not?
