Anser all four questions below.
A. Describe the tensions identified in the handouts
B. What are some of the potential reasons for the tension between paid and volunteer firefighters? (Think for example of the functionalist and/or neo-Weberian perspectives)
C. Compare the case with the example of volunteering in public libraries described in Nesbit et al. 2016 and the case of volunteering in nursing homes described in Thomsen and Jensen 2019. How do these cases differ? Why does there seem to be strong tension in only some of these cases?
D. In your view, what are the key opportunities and challenges for public managers in managing professionals? You are encouraged to use the materials to illustrate opportunities and/or challenges. Consider how this case and your reflections apply to the organization you’ve chosen for your management analysis.
