Health Information Management and Informatics
Health Information Management and Informatics focus on the analysis of healthcare information
systems and informatics for the creation of data-driven decisions. Emphasis is placed on the tools and
techniques needed for planning and implementation of quality improvement programs to support and
improve patient and health care systems.
Course Goals:
By the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Create workflow redesign within a quality-improvement strategy to improve the practice setting
2. Evaluate current health information systems used in healthcare organizations.
3. Evaluate advanced analytics techniques currently being used in health care
4. Evaluate ethical/legal and safety issues that arise in using, designing, and managing health
information technology.
Course Objectives:
1. Create workflow redesign within a quality-improvement strategy to improve the practice setting
1. Create a project charter and understand its usefulness in meaningful use
2. Create a workflow design and address common barriers
3. Evaluate best practices for workflow redesign
2. Evaluate current health information systems used in healthcare organizations
1. Create and analyze a process map
2. Evaluate programs of care, outcomes of care, and care systems
3. Evaluate advanced analytics techniques currently being used in health care
1. Analyze knowledge found from big data and its impact on health care
2. Create and analyze from data mining to increase accessibility and usability of a health care
information
4. Evaluate ethical/legal and safety issues that arise in using, designing, and managing health
information technology
1. Evaluate the complexity of managing and utilizing genomic data
2. Evaluate implications for the health care industry with nanotechnology
3. Evaluate health information technology and implications for patient safety
4. Evaluate electronic clinical quality measures for implementation, quality data model, values sets,
and quality-reporting document architecture.
