Contrast health systems and identify how different factors influence the design and functioning of different systems.

The aim of this assessment, to be presented in a report format, is to compare and contrast health systems and in doing so to identify how different factors influence the design and functioning of different systems. You should select three contrasting systems (Australia, Japan and UK). For each system you should then:

  • Briefly describe the system; its governance, structure, and function (10 marks).
  • Critically analyze and explain why they are different (15 marks).
  • Use a framework to evaluate how each of the systems performs in achieving health outcomes (15 marks).
  • Critically evaluate current or proposed reform in each of the systems (10 marks.).

Your report is to be presented in a format which is at publication standard. Thus, your report will be evaluated for presentation, writing style, line of argument and referencing (10 marks). It should include the following sections: introduction/executive summary, sub-headings, body paragraphs, conclusion, reference list. You can use headings, dot points, figures, and tables to help you compare and contrast the different health systems and support the information you’re providing in a more structured format. Remember, use standard academic practice and cite where you have obtained the information; particularly any data cited.
