Although the artificial intelligence concept has been around for centuries, profound
evolution has never occurred since it was first discovered in the 20th century. Artificial
intelligence is a technical term referring to artifacts used in detecting contexts or effect actions in
response to detected settings. Artificial intelligence is a result of technology evolution attributed
to every civilization having its technology breakthroughs. Artificial intelligence has become
widely used after advancements in computers, which has enabled scientists to develop programs
and utilize Big data that perform intricate intellectual tasks.
Artificial intelligence's history and evolution date back to the 20th century, when
scientists familiarized the concept of artificially intelligent robots to the world. John McCarthy
was the first person to coin the term artificial intelligence in 1956 who proposed a system that
amplifies people’s knowledge and understanding. Five years later, Alan Turing, a young British
polymath, discovered artificial intelligence's mathematical possibility. Alan Turing suggested
that humans can utilize available information and a reason to solve problems and make
decisions. However, Turing faced a significant challenge because it was not effective and
efficient for artificial intelligence activities. Turing recognized that computers were slow and
could not store commands or execute them, which are a prerequisite for intelligence (Haenlein,
Michael, and Andreas Kaplan, 2019, 5-14).

By 1950-1974, the technology started flourishing, computers started storing more
information and became convenient, and by then, AI was in its infancy stages. Simultaneously,
machine learning algorithms improve, and people got a better understanding of which algorithm
to practice to their problem. Due to technology improvements and accomplishments, government
agencies such as DARPA-funded artificial intelligence research and AI research continued to
gather steam. Following the issues such as computer inefficiencies, lack of storage space, and
low speed, many researchers noted that the computational power to perform substantial activities
was still very weak. In the 1980s, artificial intelligence was reignited by a boost of funds and
expansion of algorithmic toolkit.
Presently, technological advancements continue to heighten the use and application of
artificial intelligence due to the use and availability of Big Data, where they can glean massive
data sets which were too clumsy for a person to process earlier. The application and use of
artificial intelligence have been quite productive in several industries such as marketing,
banking, entertainment, and health. In just a few years, ‘machine learning’ seems to be taking the
world forward. In today’s world, algorithms, freed from human programmers, train themselves
on massive data sets and produce results that have shocked the expertise in this field.
The future of artificial intelligence’s goal, a self-teaching system, is to outperform
humans across a wide range of disciplines. Scientists believe that artificial intelligence evolution
will go a long way as AI will likely pull even with human intelligence and then blow past it in a
matter of hours or days. If the future predictions about AI advancements, general AI will begin
taking jobs away from people from transportation, radiologist, insurance, health, and so on. In
one scenario, future AI robots will care for older adults. Scientists at Brown University are
working with Hasbro to develop a “robot” that will efficiently tender and remind their owners to

take meds. In short, future artificial intelligence will colonize and transform the entire cosmos
and make intelligent decisions (Delamater, Natalie, 2018).
In conclusion, the history of artificial intelligence is mesmerizing, considering that
everybody uses data to process information or make decisions. The development of artificial
intelligence started in the 1950s and has made a significant impact on many industries globally.
If the scientist continues to make AI advancements, the artificial general intelligence will be so
smart and so widely dispersed in the future. Despite the massive evolution of artificial
intelligence, in AI, the hard problems have not been solved. Progress is slow, maybe due to lack
of funding or loss of interest from researchers or a realization that the issues continue becoming
complex. Another problem identified with AI evolution is that no computer can pass the Turing
test even after fifty years. Computers cannot beat humans at some strategic but straightforward
games such as Go.
