The first botanic gardens were related to monasteries, and were set up with intent for growing medicinal plants, teaching monks how to do farming, identification of such plants and the use and functions of such plants. Interest in adventuring into medicine by the European universities has led to universities setting up botanical gardens; these gardens were made based on the architecture of monastic garden models. The earliest university gardens were Oxford and Edinburgh in Britain. There was an increasing trend in the growth and development of more botanic farms. Every now and then, they had new designs that were even more of a hobby than for the intended purpose of medicinal and learning aspects. The gardens were even designed as a park where people could take leisure walks (Endersby and Adrian n.p). Due to the improved agricultural machinery, Liverpool botanic garden was developed in 1803 and was seen as more of a model farm than a botanic garden (Williams 38).

The domestication of plants led to change of careers for most people. Most people practiced hunting before but as time passed, they changed and entered into the business of plants where they learnt more about the plants and went ahead to domesticate them. This included going to search and seek plant species in forests and planting them in selected areas. The change in the daily activities of the people altered the business environment of Britain since the economic status also changed. Trade changed since the commodities that were traded before the domestication of plants were replaced by the developed commodities that arose from discovery and domestication of plants.

Botany became attractive to the population of Britain and this interest led to development of new things from the plants that were discovered and domesticated. The Linnaean system creates more interest in use and learning of botany tools. Botany tools were easy and cheap to use and it attracted more women in the field of botany. Women have a great interest in flowers hence this grew as they continued their venture in plants. One, this flower venture resulted in job creation to many jobless women in Britain. Flowers were a new boom in Britain and people liked and loved flowers hence improved business sector due to the efficient and increased trade (Endersby and Adrian n.p).

From trees, timber was extracted, a product of the plants that were discovered and domesticated. Through the products from trees, there was development of industries that refined wood to timber to suit the requirements and specifications given by the users. Growth of industries resulted in development of small towns as people moved in to seek employment in these regions with industries. Towns like Hull developed and expanded as a result of trade and of trees and tree products; this extremely changed the economic status of Britain since trade had a positive trend. From this trade, there was great development of infrastructure, which arose due to the need for transportation of bulky wood cargo. For example, the making of the Leeds and Selby Railway in 1834, a vital link with West Riding. Such development was very effective in enhancing the communication between people at different localities. This resulted in enhanced trade activities in the areas in and around Hull town. From timber, several other inventions were made like making of furniture, boats and wooden utensils. These commodities acted as a source of revenue from exports that exposed Britain to new markets outside, hence improving the economy (British History Online n.p).
