Sample Essay on History Assignment

Many factors were responsible for the rise and fall of the Spanish empire. First, the rule of Spain by two powerful Christian kingdoms was responsible for its unification into a single kingdom. Moreover, the centralization of the monarchy facilitated its expansion since there was a common source of rule and law (Maltby, 13). The acquirement of many mineral rich places in America made the empire to expand tremendously.

            The fall of the empire can be attributed to the England defeat over Spain in 1588. Most of the fighting vessels were destroyed by the English. Its involvement in numerous wars all over the world was one factor that led to its decline. In addition, inquisition in the country robbed some of its most educated persons. This case meant that most of the population that remained were not economically viable.

The Glorious Revolution

            The Glorious revolution entailed the overthrow of English King James II. The parliament worked towards the limitation of the monarch’s powers by issuing the Bill of rights. The Bill of rights stipulated a number of rules that governed the monarch’s powers.

            The Glorious Revolution majorlyaffected the English bill of rights by bringing about new laws that seek to limit the powers of the monarch (Miller, 27). For instance, there was no room for the suspension of the national assembly’s laws. In addition, the monarch was not to interfere with the activities of the parliament. The Bill of rights also had it that there were to be no penalties for any citizens who filed petitions against the king.

Cardinal Richelieu

            Cardinal Richelieu was a clergyman, as well as political leader in the French world during the 17th century. He also served as the government’s chief under the reign of King Louis XIII (Davies, 35). His achievements in history include the agitation and establishment of French Absolute Monarchy and the breaking of powers of French Protestants.

Edict of Nantes

            The Edict was issued to the French society with the purpose of promoting civil unity. It was issued to the French Protestants, who proved to be a challenge to the French civil society. Owing to the civil nature of the Protestants and other denominations in France, there was the need for incorporating a tool in the law that could limit the effects of the civil unrest.

Samuel Adams

            Samuel Adams can be termed as one of the most influential United States’ founding fathers. He was a philosopher who used extensively applied his knowledge to benefit the American society. Moreover, he is attributed to the foundation of the American Revolution and the American republicanism principles (Alexander, 12). Thus, he played an integral role in the development of the American politics.

The Exclusion bill

            The exclusion bill was aimed at exempting the brother to the U.K king from the English thrones since he was of the Roman Catholic denomination (Davies, 87). However, the Whigs, who were termed as the Country Party, supported the exclusion bill, while the Tories were against it.


Duke of Newcastle

            The duke in British history was a title that was extensively used to refer to a member of the royal family, who was entitled to treatment just as the highness (Davies, 231). The royal dukes were the most respectable persons in the peerage. Thus, the Duke of Newcastle was a member of the royal family, who was entitled to his highness style in Newcastle.
