During the 1950s era, the African American experienced hard discrimination from the whites. Policies such as De jure and De facto segregation were made to distance the blacks from services such as proper housings, education, healthcare, and transportation. Such policies imposed division of the African Americans from the white races. The difference in the living environment entitled for African Americans relative to the whites was high. There were high discrepancies on the living environment of the whites and the blacks.

 For instance, the African Americans were pushed into the filthy ghettos while the whites occupied the inner cities of California and Los Angeles. Moreover, the experience in “The First day of School in Little Rock” indicates how the black were mistreated both by the white teachers and the colleague students. When it was the question of utilizing the school’s facilities, the whites would be given the priority above the blacks. Such discriminations attributed to good grades from the whites while the blacks continued performing poorly. The African Americans were hence considered as thick-headed.

The transportation system privileged the whites over other races. While the whites occupied the front seats in vehicles and the train, the blacks would take the crowded rear seats where they were subjected to direct smoke from the exhaust system. Concerning the incidence “The Front of the Bus,” this idea undisputable. Surprisingly, the blacks would be mistreated or threatened for making a wrong move on the whites. If one were caught in the traffic offense, heavy allegations would follow.

The judicial system was affected by nepotism that was infiltrated by the white members. These racist fellows ensured that the African Americans had little say on matters that would sustain human well-beings and economic interest of the country. Their participations was grounded to slavery and pure exploitations by the whites. However, in the fairgrounds, no African American would be given job or leadership opportunity. It was until 1960s that the Civil Rights Act campaigned for “separate but equal,” a policy that ended the segregation in America.
