Sample Healthcare Paper on Vila Health: Remote Collaboration on Evidence-Based Care

Collaborative practice concept is based on the premise that quality care of patients
depends on the expertise several healthcare professionals. Remote collaboration in healthcare
organization is a very intricate behavior which necessitates time, energy as well as the patience
of healthcare providers to implement. Collaboration in healthcare organizations is very
significant since it helps in reducing various issues that may result to burnout. In addition,
collaboration plays an essential role in helping health care professionals to have a better
understanding of the patient’s need. According to Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality (2013), quality care and bridging of communication gaps results to improved
patient outcomes. Moreover, collaboration of healthcare professionals helps in
combating various ongoing patient problems such as misdiagnosis. This paper seeks to
examine evidence-based plan to enhance patient’s outcome using the case of Villa health and it
will also discuss how remote collaboration can provide benefits or challenges in designing and
delivering care.

Relevance and potential effectiveness of evidence when making a decision

Remote care, diagnosis and collaboration methods used by nursing professionals in
providing quality healthcare have become more important as the technology and health care
industry continue to advance. Besides, Evidence-based models help medical practioners to make
critical decisions concerning various patients’ health cases thus promoting better clinical
outcomes. Moreover, principles of EBP and effective collaboration of healthcare practioners help
health organizations to deliver quality, safe and cost-effective care to the patients. Additionally,

relevance and potential effectiveness of evidence when making a decision results to better job
satisfaction among the healthcare professionals engaging in remote collaboration.

Medical practioners and nursing professionals are typically required to make health care
decision based on the relevance and effectiveness of evidence. In this case, nurses are advised to
make healthcare decision concerning the care they provide to the patients based on the most
effective, relevant and valid evidence available at that time.
By following the principles of Evidence-based practice nurses are capable of providing
quality patient care that based on the best research and knowledge. It is therefore, imperative to
use EBP when making clinical decisions as it opposed to making decisions based on the
traditions, myths, invalid or even meager advice from colleagues (Canada, 2016). This way,
it enhances health care system because it aids in facilitating consistency of making decisions
based on the best available evidence (Nibbelink, & Brewer, 2018). Addition EBP aids
healthcare professionals in making informed clinical decisions that are based on the updated
research and technology, hence enabling them to provide efficient, effective and quality
healthcare to the patients. As stipulated by Brown (2014), Evidence-based practice is
crucial in nursing since it leads to better outcomes in patients. As a result, it
contributes significantly to greater efficiency and professionalism among the
nursing practioners thus resulting to better health and patient’s outcomes.

Regarding the Villa health case collaboration Dr Erika copel who is a Pediatrician Valley
Regional Hospital and Virginia Anderson who is a pediatric nurse hold discussion concerning
Carlyn (patient), 2 –year old kid who has been admitted hospital for having pneumonia
condition. The doctor asks whether Carlyn had a history of pneumonia since she was previously

admitted for the last six for pneumonia. Other symptoms presenting themselves to Carlyn case
include; high temperature ranging 101 degrees Celsius, decreased blood cells, respiration 21 and
decrease in subcutaneous tissue and she taste salty when her mother kisses her. After discussion
with both doctor and nurse suggested that the kid could be suffering from cystic fibrosis that is a
hereditary condition that causes body to release heavy and sticky mucus which causes clogging
to the lungs and pancreas. The healthcare practioners at valley city Regional systems suggested
various treatment options for cystic fibriosis and pneumonic conditions which Carlyn is suffering
from and they engage in consultation with other doctors through Telemedicine Equipment to find
out the best treatment option that might bring better patient outcomes. In this scenario wen can
say that collaboration is significant essential because it helps health care professionals to have a
better understanding of the patient’s need thus enabling them to treat patients based on best and
evidence-based practice.
Application of evidence-based practice model in addressing pneumonia

and cystic fibriosis

Evidence-based practice is important in nursing because it leads to better outcomes in
patients. As a result, it contributes significantly to greater efficiency and professionalism among
the nursing practioners thus resulting to better health and patient’s outcomes. In regard to Villa
health collaboration case, Dr Erika copel Hospital and Virginia Anderson pediatric nurse applied
Evidence-based practice to treat Carlyn a two-year old kid who was suffering from pneumonia
and cystic fibrosis. In this regard, upon discussing the condition that the kid was suffering from
they recommended best options for treatment by following established evidence-based
guidelines. Carolyn’s parents were educated about adherence to EBP guidelines in order to

enhance her outcome. The EBP model was applied in prescribing appropriate medication and
treatment for Carlyn in order to improve her condition.

Evidence-based Care plan to enhance safety and Outcomes for patient
To improve the safety and outcomes for Carlyn (patient) who is suffering from
Pneumonia and cystic fibrosis , Dr Erika copel Hospital and Virginia Anderson pediatric nurse
propose the following evidence-based care plan; The two healthcare professionals propose that
Carlyn should be given pancreatic enzymes, recommend to take high protein calories and fatty
soluble vitamins ABCD & E to improve her condition. The health practioners at Vila health
facility also recommend antibiotics as part of treatment to Carlyn. In addition, anti-inflammatory
treatments were recommended to her to help in lessening swelling in the airways in her lungs and
prevent lung infection. Education and genetic counseling was done to the patient and family
members regarding the condition to aid her recovery process and to improve her safety
outcomes.
In addition, telemedicine resources were also recommend to aid in delivery of healthcare
services to the patient. According to George etal (2015), telemedicine resources refer to
the remote delivery of healthcare services, carrying out assessments and consultation
through telecommunication infrastructure. As stipulated by Barret (2017),
telemedicine helps in providing efficient and less costly care to the patients thus
improving their clinical outcome.
Moreover, as part of evidence-based plan family members -involvement will be
encouraged as a therapeutic process. Family support and involvement will help in
promoting and improving safety outcomes of patient and well-being.

Communication strategies

To mitigate the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration to plan care within the
context of a remote team various communication strategies will be used to help in improving
safety outcomes of patients including; use of telemedicine equipment, used of text messages and
through making calls. Interdisplinary collaboration plays an essential role in developing
communication strategies when planning and coordinating care (White & Spruce,
2015). Thus, interdisciplinary collaboration promotes communication among the team of
healthcare professionals to help in delivering quality and evidence-based care.
