I want to take this opportunity to express my overwhelming gratitude towards the whole time you selflessly spent in enhancing our knowledge in Environmental Issues through your outstanding lectures. I must say despite the fact that I had initially had a negative attitude towards this class, you made it so enjoyable I had to change my whole perception, and now for sure it is one of my ever favorite classes throughout my time in school. This is not just a compliment; it is a sincere observation that even my classmates agree with. During one of the group sessions you initiated for this course, I heard several times my peers commenting on how your teaching style is one of a kind and makes the whole class excited whenever you walked into the classroom. From the beginning of the Environmental Issues class, my understanding of many factors relating to the environment, from the issues affecting it to how to go about these matters has evidently improved, and today I have a whole new dimension of looking at and dealing with the environment.
I still remember nearly every topic you taught us in this class because you used a lot of your lecture skills and experience to ensure we remembered what we had learned. As many other tutors just give class lectures and tests, you used more sophisticated methods of teaching that aroused the interest of almost every single student in your class, perhaps another reason why the class attendance was always over ninety per cent. The fact that you allowed us to correct one another’s papers after your tests helped us in spotting our mistakes and since we could see how another person tackled the same problem, it was so hard to forget and make the same mistake again. In addition to that, the relationship between you and the students, and the trust among the students significantly improved. I cannot forget the moments you made us attempt some questions and class tests in groups. This decision, according to me, was one of the best you ever made. Most suitable definitions and solutions came out of these groups in that every single student got the opportunity of sharing their unique thoughts on the question, thereby resulting in more learning and perfect solutions to the problems at hand.
I must appreciate how you taught me on some aspects of environmental science at this level. It was so great to come to the understanding of exploring environmental issues, sometimes referred to as biodiversity. In this section, you enabled me to know that the decisions on human health, water quality, energy use and even growth and development are to a large extent dependent on the understanding of biodiversity and biotechnology. The way you got us engaged in physically investigating and observing the water and energy use, waste recycle practices among many others also promoted to a great extent the way we deal with such vital areas, particularly as they affect the environment in one way or another. Regarding the forests, your Environmental Issues classes provided us with a platform for knowing and appreciating forest lands existing in various parts of the world, the forest resources and also the management of such remedies. Since we started attending your lectures on Environmental Issues, we have developed a solid bond with the community, mainly on matters concerning the environment. We have also explored with much ease, the existing and the emerging issues related to the environment, hence making more informed decisions on such aspects.
Your educative and participative lectures were also very resourceful in enlightening the students on how climate change affects the current ecosystem, the roles played by forests in seizing carbon, and approaches which are useful in the reduction of gas emissions from greenhouses. Again, we developed skills on how to adapt to varied climatic conditions. After your final class lecture, I realized that analyzing, exploring, discovering and learning about risk assessment, perception, communication and management had become much simpler. This is because your tutorials touched with emphasis on critical elements of decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking. I cannot overlook the countless hands-on experiences we had in this class, mostly with more focus on the usage of natural resources, generation of wastes, and general disposal requirements. The experience availed us a guideline towards managing wastes as well as required tools in making sustainable decisions regarding environmental management.
Precisely, on behalf of my colleagues, I want to recognize each and every effort, contribution and the overall change you have brought to us during you time as the Environmental Issues lecturer. Your simplicity, selflessness and generosity have made an unerasable mark in our lives. Not only have the students felt the value of your education, but they have in many ways transferred the lessons to the community, leading to the changes in the society’s perception on the environmental matters. I can say so much more about you and your fantastic lectures, but just know we appreciate and love you.
