Introduction
The threats facing the U.S have transformed over the years with a change in their magnitude and level being witnessed recently. The organization and content of the threats have been changing in a radical manner and at a rapid rate. As such, the approach taken by the security agencies while handling intelligence response as well as their cooperation with other countries should be re-evaluated and revised.
According to the World Threat Assessment (WTA) and Director of National Intelligence (DNI), the threats are diverse, viral and interconnected than other situations witnessed in the human history. Recently, there has been a shift of intelligence reports on threats’ reevaluation from the traditional threats whose nature is majorly manual.
Current threats assessment indicates an escalation of security threats to involve cyber attacks, financial weapons and online crimes that are likely to be deniable or not attributed to any entity. The assessment has indicated the potential of the threats to cause severe and progressive physical destruction. It also indicates that the threats are more latent today than they were 10 years back.

Traditionally, human geography, competition for scarce natural resources, diseases and climate were not considered by WTA and DNI as potential causes of these threats. However, these factors are being considered now because of their potential to cause tension and conflicts among countries1.
Cyber threats were not considered as a cause of security concerns by WTA and DNA last year. However, these have been considered this year because of advancement in technology. Currently, business transactions, social interactions and global interactions are intertwined by digital technologies and the internet. This technological advancement and internet proliferation has caused a propagation of the security agencies making them to prioritize and review security threats.
Consideration of advancement in technology and its use as a security threat has been necessitated by the application that digital technologies are being put into at a faster and higher rate than the rate at which the security agencies comprehend the implication of this trend. This is a challenge within the security circles because it leads to the inability of security agencies to come up with efficient measures of mitigating potential risks as well as matching the advancing cyber threats. Today, the U.S agencies are revising the evaluation of cyber security by considering cyber attacks and cyber espionage2.
Cyber threat is perceived as a priority task for the security agencies because of the way digital technology is utilized by private and public utilities. In America, the army depends on digital technologies to perform secret attacks using unmanned drones and for surveillance purposes. This makes cyber security a major concern that requires more evaluation. Additionally, other global super powers such as Germany, France, China and Russia are advancing technologically. As such, WTA and DNI have reevaluated their approach towards cyber threats while considering the digital strategies of their rivals. Terrorist organizations and other nations have also used digital technology in penetrating the mainframe of computer networks in America. This has posed a danger to the government operations, academic programs, and entities in the private sector as well as business operations.
This has forced security agencies to change their approach of evaluating security threats. Dynamics and changes of threats caused by technological advancement have guided the reevaluation of the approaches of security threats. As such, changing security approaches in the contemporary world is a must3.
