Rice is one of the commodities that are quite rich in carbohydrates. The product is seen to be one of the staple foods in the country.  As it stands, demand for rice is elastic as most people in this country love it because of its sweetness.  Most of the government institutions have invariably implemented programs that promote the growing of the rice.  Currently, the production of rice is deemed to be at a high scale, and its growing has made lots of changes in the various sectors of agriculture.  The nutrients that rice brings are immense and as at now, the primary source of starch for most of the citizens is the rice product.  It is imperative to note that the inception of rice in this country has led to various economic impacts that need to be discussed in details (Lappharat, Siriwong, Taneepanichskul, Borjan, Maldonado, & Robson, 2014).  In this paper, we would look at the different pros and corns of bringing on board the advent of rice to be the primary source of starch for the various customers across the national divide.  The real question one has to ask is whether the rise is healthy for consumption.  Additionally, what are some of the economic impacts of planting as well as importing rice to the economy of the country? In this set, we would dwell on the significant prices of rice in relation to other commodities that offer the same kind of nutrients to the body. This paper is a masterpiece in revealing whether or not the product should be considered economically viable and appropriate health wise.

One of the concerns that one might raise about this commodity is the impact it has on the health of various individuals in the country who consumes it.  Recent research done by a team of experts discovered that the crop has high levels of arsenic acid in it (Rodríguez, & Lacaze, 2005).  The research further connotes that the arsenic acid mostly concentrated in the bran of the rice grain.  In this sense, it is only evident that this arsenic acid is very much focused on the brown rice. As revealed by the scholars and the research in the field of science, high exposure to the toxicity of this acid may cause numerous side effects on the body of the consumer.  In the first instance, the exposure is deemed to cause patchy skin hyperpigmentation and small focal keratoses (Frier, & Greene, 2005). These are some of the deadly conditions that are very detrimental to the body of the consumer of rice at any given point of consumption of rice.  Additionally, the exposure makes one have the risks of having skin and lung cancer because of the high levels of arsenic acid in the content of this much-beloved staple. We should, therefore, take much caution in the consumption of rice since it contains this acid which proves to be quite detrimental to the very body which human beings treasure most (Rodríguez, & Lacaze, 2005).

On another account, there are some economic facts about rice that we need to put to light. One of the crucial factors as the government formulates its policies is to look for a solution for which food security could be enhanced in the long term. A closer look at the sustainability of rice in our farmland, research shows that the rate at which the commodity deteriorates the soils is quite higher than another good in this category like wheat, sorghum, millet, and maize. This concern is very critical in the formulation of the government policy since the high cost of planting and maintaining this commodity is deemed to be quite higher in the long run than the other products which produce the same nutrients to the citizens (Stein, Sachdev, & Qaim, 2006, August).  A typical example is seen in the current prices of rice in the market now as compared to other products in the same caliber. Rice is sold at exorbitantly higher prices that other crops.  The high prices make the consumer not to get the value for their money, and this leads to losing of income for unprecedented gain.  The primary motive of the government is to make sure that every commodity is produced and sold at lower prices so as to allow the local consumer to save and invest in the other funds remaining.  This notion cannot be achieved people buy rice for the commodity proves to have a higher price than the real value for which its nutrients has (Ara, 2002).

In the global arena, rice is cheaply produced in other countries than our country.  There is a high influx of importation of rice into the country for consumption purpose.  The prices for these imported rice is slightly small. Most people would now prefer having the imported rice than the locally produced rice due to their low prices thereby discouraging the local farmers who get nothing in the end since their produce cannot be successfully sold in the market.  This notion causes a disruption in the economic patterns in such a way that the country will gain less for the sales of these commodities (Stein, Sachdev, & Qaim, 2006, August).  The influx of rice into the country has the effect of robbing the economy its quality revenue through the cash outflow into other nations which specialize in rice production.  In economic terms, in the event that the imports of a country are higher than the export of the same, the state is deemed to experience an external trade deficit. This notion means that the country is running at a loss by allowing most of its funds to be taken away from it through importation of commodity (Ara, 2002).  The buying and selling of rice from abroad into the country, therefore, would cause high levels of the deficit which would lead to losing of revenue by the government hence decline in the economic development (Stein, Sachdev, & Qaim, 2006, August).

In a nutshell, rice is one of the most important staples across the country; the commodity has gained fame and is deemed to be quite nutritious in terms of starch.  The government has also embraced it in its policies such that is much funds is streamlined to it.  However, one question that we need to ask ourselves is the real dynamics and unforeseen burden that this commodity brings on board.  Currently, rice has health concerns for which it contains high levels of arsenic acid which causes skin and lung cancer.  Furthermore, the commodity is high priced in the market and lastly, the product makes the country have a lot of wealth outflow due to the importation of this same merchandise into the country.  It is now the duty of the citizens to reject this good and the government to reform its policies on this commodity for the better since the food insecurity will not be enhanced with rice in place.
