Children Literature Class
There are many lessons that can be learned from reading children literature books and taking children literature class. These lessons include: encouragement to read, inclusion of engaging content and preparing a list of books for the readers. Children are not interested in reading content and this makes it hard for them to read books. This means that a new and engaging strategy need to be put into place to allow children interact freely and understand the content of books. This will not only encourage children to read but also the young ones will develop the habit to read books due to engaging content used in the writing of literature materials. This essay will concentrates on the application of lessons learnt from a children literature class.
The instructor has an obligation to prepare and make a list of books that fits the needs and capability of children. By doing this, the instructor will be helping the young ones to read books whose content is familiar to them. This means that they will not struggle to understand and evaluate the information they read from their engagement with the articles. In addition, establishing a reading habit in children is paramount as it helps them gain knowledge on various issues. This is a key factor when it comes to the development of the child as well as academic success. In most cases, children who love reading story books and related materials perform well in class. This is also true when it comes to the development and growth of analytical skills.
I plan to use these lessons in carrying out my duties as a teacher. First, preparing children for the future comes hand in hand with the teaching the basic skills that will help them succeed both academically and socially. Reading and writing skills are the primary skills that an individual’s needs in life. Therefore, I intend to apply the lessons I learnt from the literature class in enhancing and encouraging children in developing these skills (Campana, 2011).In acquiring reading skills, children must participate in reading endeavor. I will therefore supply diverse materials that will enables children sharpen their skills as they gain more knowledge. At the same time, I will offer guidance where needed and direction where student encounter problems. In planning my lessons, my teaching mode will take diverse measures such as use of provocative questions, engagement stories and group discussion. These are the basic strategies that are effective in the delivery system. Many schools encourage student group discussion as they help the young ones learn how to present an idea. Moreover, an individual opposes an idea or views from another student through reasoning. These skills can be developed from a tender age as they are needed in future or at a later date in life.
Lesson preparation requires the selection of the right materials and content for the student. Thus, planning my lessons will go along way by creating a list of books that will be read by student during the course. Parents will also be able to help their student learn at home. Student engagement through the use of questions helps them express their views and ideas on various topics handled in class (Kingsley 2016). One of the methods through which students get engaged in class discussion is through the use of questions. If an instructor uses questions to extract information from the student, then, students actively participate in the lesson. Moreover, instructors are able to evaluate students understanding capability through questions. Involvement of questions in between the lesson helps students also get attentive and concentrate. Parent involvement in the learning process is also critical in the sense that they contribute a lot to the development of a child’s skills. Some of the skills that a child will learn from his or her parent include socialization, communication and planning skills. These skills will be needed at school and in the social life of a child. It is therefore important to have the parent’s hand on the child education affairs. They also offer motivation to the young ones by rewarding them when they do well and offering guidance when they make mistakes. These are critical behavioral attributes that a child has to learn to be able to live with others (Tunnell, Jacobs, Young, & Bryan, 2012). Revising and rehearsing the lesson will also depend on the discipline taught in school as well as at home. A student plans his or her time by learning through her/his parents. Thus, parental guidance matters a lot when it comes to discipline and success in school. I intend to involve parents a lot in the growth and learning of their kids.
In conclusion, children literature course is critical to instructors as it teaches the right skills required in handling students. Moreover, literature to be fed to student needs be simple and easy to understand. This may involve the use of pictures that are more appealing to the young ones. Children will love reading those books that features images and pictures of items they use or encounter within their surroundings. A picture may mean a lot to a child rather than content. This is because an image is easier to understand than reading a book and analyzing the writer’s intention.
