Sample Annotated Bibliography Paper on Metaphors (Vampires and Zombies)
Clark, Maureen. “Postcolonial Vampires in the Indigenous Imagination.” Transnational
and Postcolonial Vampires 1.1 (2012): 112 134. Print.

Maureen in this article explores the probable origin of the word vampires. She argues that there was a possibility of the word to originate from Greek, Hungary or Turkey. She claims that the word vampire simply means a witch, to drink, and plague carrier respectively. However, she stresses that the concept of the vampire is mostly embedded in the consciousness of the humans. Apart from the covering the origin of the word vampire, Maureen also endless and fascinating facts about vampires. Some of these facts include how to name a group of vampires that she referred by different terms such as brood, clutch, pack, clan and coven. Moreover, she identified Dracula as the most common vampire of all time. Another fact that she highlighted in her article is the porphyria disease that has similar symptoms like the vampires. The article also covers myths that try to explain how to prevent vampires from rising such as placing the stone tables on the top of the graves.

This article is critical for my research because it provides in-depth information concerning the vampires as a whole. The fact that the author starts by defining the origin, and the meaning of the word vampire is enough to testify how vastly she has done her research. Additionally, this article has enriched me with the vital facts that concern the vampires that are important in drawing the line between the lies that are propagated by the entertainment industry’s vampires. Therefore, I would be in a position of explaining metaphor in my paper that portray the true picture of humanity by focusing at the vampires, both indigenous as well as the postcolonial vampires.

Kirk, Robert. “Zombies and Consciousness.” 2.1 (2005): 28 36. Print.

In this article, the author gave a vivid description of the zombies. Robert defined zombies as creatures that are undead and mindless but have a unsatisfiable appetite for the human flesh. Moreover, he went further to describe zombies simply as the human corpses that are reanimated. In addition, he stressed that zombies are mainly found in genre work such as the horror and fantasy. In his article, Robert gave a difference between the modern zombie and traditional zombie. He put it clearly that the modern zombie does not involve magic as an inducer to the zombie-like characters. Instead, the inducing factor is mostly the virus. On the other hand, he claimed that the traditional zombie in most cases is induced using magic.

This article is important for this research because it gives the overall overview about the zombies. The fact that it categorizes zombies as traditional and modern zombies is important in getting the insight of the zombie. Furthermore, this category is important because it gives information in regards to the evolution of the zombie. Therefore, I would be able to draw a comparison between the zombies during these two era. Besides, this article has highlighted the application of the zombie-like characters in the modern entertainment industry. This concept would be important in introducing the relevance of the zombie in both art and entertainment industry. Notably the article site the famous film entitled Night of the Living Dead that paved way for zombie apocalypse. Therefore, I would be able to introduce the concepts of the metaphors by drawing examples from the zombie for a better understanding.

O’Callaghan, Sean. “Vampires Today: The Truth About Modern Vampirism by Joseph
Laycock.” Alternative Spirituality and Religion Review 2.2 (2013): 186-88. Print.

In this article, Sean covered mainly the modern vampires. He apparently put it that the modern vampires are presented in the movies. As opposed to the traditional vampires that could not withstand the sunlight, the modern vampires can walk freely in the daylight without experiencing any difficulties. However, he noted that the modern vampires are still bloodthirsty and possess unimaginable abilities. Furthermore, he believed that the modern vampires have a close association with the spiritual and religious groups. This implies that the modern vampires are more of cultic groups. Most importantly, he explored how the movie industry has taken advantage of the vampires concepts to come up with best-selling movies that the world as a whole has embraced.

In my research work, this article is not only relevant but also important because it provides a different dimension concerning the vampires. The fact that the author has identified the economic importance of the ideas of vampires is important in the underlining the significance of this phenomenon in my paper. In addition, the details about the vampires that are covered by this article are crucial in further dispelling the false information that are in the public domain. Nevertheless, the horrific description of the vampires is a testimony that this condition is detested in most of the societies. Therefore, it provides the necessary tone that would be ideal for my final paper as I would explain both the metaphors and allegory.

Schwitzer, Alan M. “Woody”. “Bottom Line: From Zombies to Frontal Lobes.” About

3.1 (2012): 25-31. Print.

Here, Alan focused on different types of zombies. However, he agreed that these zombies are only depicted in movies as well as the stories. However, he acknowledged the fact that it is not easy to determine the type of zombies that an individual can encounter. Therefore, Alan proposed that to be safe, an individual should be ready to expect any form of zombie. Though zombie movies and stories are interesting, Alan felt the need for controlled exposure for these stories to avoid any traumatic experience. Examples of zombies, as stipulated by Alan, are Voodoo zombies, Virar or parasitic zombies, rise from dead zombies, an experiment gone wrong zombies, together with the radiation zombies.

This article is very beneficial to my research because it covers most of the zombie types and their causes. Additionally, the fact that it elaborately covered dangers of the zombies is like an icing on the cake because it give the necessary insight of the understanding of what exactly Zombie are. However, the article is likely to be beneficial in my research because it assists in understanding allegory and metaphors in a more educative and entertaining manner.

Zeldere, Given. “Zombies.” Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science 2.2 (2006): 314 318. Print.

Zeldere in his article of the encyclopedia of the cognitive science explores a scientific approach to explaining the zombie phenomenon. He claimed that zombie is a viral disease that is caused by the Solanum virus. He went further to say that brain is the initial part of the body that the disease affect where it modify it to function in the absence of the oxygen. This ability makes the victims become the living dead. Zeldere went further to explain that it is the living that have the capacity to be infected. However, once infected, there is no medicine to remedy the condition. The article also covered the mode of transmission such as zombie bites and contacting the zombie wounds directly. The article also included some of the salient symptoms of an individual infected by this condition.

Zeldere’s article is a major source for my research because it provide a scientific approach that is simple and easy to comprehend. His systematic way of handling the issue at hand from the causes to how the disease infect the body and finally the symptom makes the reader have the right insight into the condition. Therefore, this article is more likely to assist me explain the meaning and application of both metaphor and allegory in my work.
