Argumentative Sample Essay on Benefits of Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana is the use of the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or one of its parts to treat some illnesses or other conditions (Hill 2480). The marijuana plant has been declared illegal in most countries in view that it causes mental problems and still, others say it causes seizures. This is one of the negative health effects out of multiple effects that it can bring to the body if taken in the right doses. This is because marijuana has many various chemicals helpful in the treatment of various illnesses and therefore this gives the reason why marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes. Despite the fact that it has been overlooked with the thought that it is detrimental to mental health, Medical marijuana is beneficial as far as health is concerned.

Marijuana contains hundreds of cannabinoids that act differently in the body of a person. Marijuana is helpful in reducing pain as well as inflammation. It can also be used to treat mental illness and substance addiction (Hoffmann and Ellen 1558). Therefore instead of banning the drug, it should be used to help treat those who are addicted to drugs which are the highest population of the youths and this will bring more positive impacts to the country.

Marijuana is also known in controlling epileptic seizures and especially in small children.  It is also known in treating of nausea. This is of importance and can be used in patients that are undergoing chemotherapy and even in pregnant mothers. This is important because most people will be able to use drugs that they could not use because of feeling nausea and will also reduce sickness in pregnant women that is mostly caused by nausea.

Glaucoma is an eye disease that can be treated using marijuana that reduces the pressure in the eyes. It also helps in increasing the lung capacity and its functionality. Therefore this is important to be used to treat those who smoke cigarettes and have lost lung functionality. Then how can we ban such drug which can help cure lung problems especially in those who smoke cigarettes (Hill 2078). The states should ban cigarettes and allows medical marijuana that can be used to treat the smokers in the hospitals.

It is also of importance because it has been realized that it increases appetite and can be used in patients who are wasting such as those with HIV and AIDS and are undergoing treatment. It increases appetite and this will enhance their taking of different foods that can help improve their health and thus the immunity (Koppelet al. 1558). Why then should medical marijuana be banned when the world is suffering from HIV and AIDS that has also resulted in poor economic development due to ill health when marijuana can boost the health and in turn increase work force resulting in increased economic growth.

Medical marijuana has been known to prevent the development of some cancer cells in the body. It also helps in preventing the spread of cancer in the body. Cancer is a global disaster that has no cure but we can stop it before it develops and before it spreads (Hoffmann and Ellen 1559). Therefore to save many lives, medical marijuana offers one of the best preventive strategies that stop the gene in the cancerous cells from spreading through the body.

Many patients die or go to a coma because of the pain and discomfort caused by a certain illness. Medical marijuana can help counteract all these (Kondrad and Alfred 53-60). This is because marijuana reduces pain and inflammation and also promotes sleep. This helps in patient management in hospitals and also makes healing faster due to improved sleep among hospitalized patients. This happens especially in patients having arthritis.

People who use marijuana remain skinny even if they have increased appetite. This is because marijuana helps in improving body metabolism and so the body maintains the proper levels of sugars in the body (Koppelet al. 1560). This, therefore, can be helpful in keeping good weight in people.  There will be no obese people due to problems of sugars. Hence there will be a reduction in lifestyle disorders in the world like heart problems.

Marijuana has been shown to increase creativity in minds of the people. It actually stirs up minds to come up with new ideas. This is useful if used in small doses and people will be creative coming up with new ideas in life that help in development as well as improving the general wellbeing of people’s lives and health.

Marijuana has been shown to help in protecting the brain from damage after stroke. This is because marijuana helps in reducing the areas that have been affected by stroke (Hoffmann and Ellen 1554). This will also help the patients from going into paralysis. It will help shorten the time that one will take to recover from the stroke.  This is important in hospitals and many patients suffering from the stroke will easily recover and suffer fewer effects.

In conclusion, there is no need of banning a product because of one side effect but a wide range of good effects to the world. Besides, there is nothing that is a hundred percent good to people but the side effects can be minimized. Taking the right doses of marijuana for the right purpose is the key to experiencing the positive effects that are hidden over one scandal that is caused due to the recklessness of the people. Hence, we should embrace this drug and stop being ignorant of its potential impact to health.
