Step 1: Final Topic for the Semester Project (Research Proposal on Evaluation of Effectiveness of Teaching Ethics Using Biographies)
Education seeks to impart knowledge to the children – knowledge that may be/not be familiar to a person at the first instance. Ethics should be incorporated into the teaching curriculum. The research seeks to gauge the effectiveness of instilling ethics to schoolchildren by use of biographies.
Step 2: Collection of necessary information
The study focuses on the children of the elementary school. The study incorporated the biographies of famous leaders whose life depict the importance of ethics to a person. Application of their principles to children at lower educational stages would groom them to have good ethics later in advanced years.
Step 3: Related Literature Review
Additional information about the effectiveness of teaching ethics to schoolchildren was got from the published educational journals, previous research on this topic, books and biographies of famous leaders. Also, the internet offered a good resource for international perspective on effectiveness of teaching ethics to school children.
Step 4: Research Plan
Teachers use different methods to discipline their students. They could be psychological or even physical and are meant to instill ethics in them. The study was an investigative one as it sought to unearth the student’s perceptions on these forms of discipline and gauge their effectiveness. The results will depict the most effective discipline form to be applied across schools in instilling ethics among the schoolchildren.
Step 5: Implementation of the plan and data collection
The students from the different elementary schools were evaluated on their opinion of the existing forms of discipline. It incorporated evaluating the current forms of discipline. The outcomes from these assessments were collected for further scrutiny.
Step 6: Analysis of Data
The data collected would then be analyzed. Quantification would incorporate variables like the student’s feedback, the behavioral change and frequency of the form of discipline to a particular school/class. The relations between the children’s feedback and behavioral change, the behavioral change and the frequency of these disciplining forms would help find the suitable form of discipline. Qualitative analysis would depict the effectiveness of usage of biographies with relation to these variables.
Step 7: Developing an Action Plan
With the findings, the effectiveness of usage of biographies for integration of ethics among the schoolchildren will be developed.
Step 8: Dissemination of the results
The results from this research would be published and shared to the different elementary schools and even the ministry of education upon request.
Step 9: Evaluation of the process
After implementation of usage of biographies as most suitable form of disciplining, this form of disciplining would be evaluated yearly to determine their effectiveness and possible improvements.
