A former graduate of Chemeketa Community College and Western Oregon State College, Amy Hammermeister received her BS in Health Education from Western Oregon University. Later, she joined Western Oregon University (WOU) as a graduate teaching assistant which marked the start of her career in the year 2000. She has also received MS from the same university after demonstrating exemplary engagements in health education at the University and receiving amazing complements from all her students. Her great passion for education has seen her come up with unique and impactful nutrition programs.

Driven by the same passion, she founded the Green Dot club which aims at encouraging the students do develop good nutrition habits as well as transferring the same education to other people. She is also a co-advisor of the club. She has participated in several training programs over the years. Between the month July and September 2008, she did presentations on Stress and relaxation and sexuality programs. She has done similar presentation since then and has been involved actively in Green Dot Bystander Training for the past three years.

Since 2009, she has headed many committees of health issues. She has been the Faculty Advisor of Human Trafficking Club and Green Dot Club. She has also been a member of similar committees such as Division of Health and Physical Education, Abby’s House Board of Directors and CASA (Campus Against Sexual Assault)-serving as the grant committee member.

During this time, her outstanding performance has been recognized in the entire university and she has won various prestigious awards. She received the Dedication and Appreciation for Support of Students with Disabilities Award in 2005, National Residency Hall Honorary in 2006 and National Residency Hall Honorary in 2009 and 2011. She was also nominated for Woman of the Year award in 2002 and later achieved the most coveted Woman of Importance Award in the year 2013.

Outside her professional occupation, as a family person, she spends time with her husband and two children. As part of her healthy living, she is also actively engaged in hiking activities and running. She also spends time with a local fitness club among other outdoor activities.
