Sample Presentation Paper on Informative Speech

Introduction

Attention getter: Have you ever been stressed up or do you know anybody with stress? If you have ever been stressed up, then you understand what I mean. On the other hand, if you have not been stressed up, at least you know someone who has ever been stressed up. Consequently, you probably have an idea of what I am talking about. Studies have shown that majority of students’ experience stress during their school lives (Pariat et al., 2014).

  1. Specific purpose: Today I’m going to inform you about stress and how to deal with it.
  2. Credibility: I have completed research about stress and found out that about 20 percent of students’ experience stress during their school lives (Thawabieh, & Qaisy, 2012). I have also helped a friend recover from stress.
  • Preview: Today I will cover the general meaning of stress, the signs of stress and how to can help a person manage stress.

Transition: I would like to begin by discussing the meaning of stress so that we can understand it better.

Body

  1. Stress is neither pressure nor is it anxiety. However, majority of the people confuse it with other types of mental disorders. For the purpose of this speech, it may be a good idea if we start by defining stress so that we do not confuse it with other types of disorders such as pressure, depression and anxiety.
  2. Stress is a mental strain that results from demanding or adverse circumstances. It occurs when one is not able to cope with pressure.
  3. Literally, it does not only result from external pressure, but also from situations that are perceived as threatening or important. As a result, the most experienced people are less likely to be stressed up because they know how to cope with it. However, the less experienced people are more likely to be stressed up (Palmer, & Cooper, 2013).
  4. The way one perceives issues might trigger stress.
  5. This is the biological part of stress and I will not cover it today because it is broad. However, I would like to point out that almost everything that we observe with our eyes gets into our brains where thought process takes place. If threatening, it might trigger stress (Palmer, & Cooper, 2013).

Transition: Now that we discussed stress from a general viewpoint, we will now talk about how you can tell a person who is under stress.

  1. In most cases, you look at the physical appearance of that person.
  2. If a social person withdraws socially, that might be a good sign of stress.
  3. If a person engages in drug abuse which he/she is not used to, that might also be a good sign of stress.
  4. If the person overreacts to petty issues, that might also be a good sign of stress.
  5. Other signs include frustration, nervous habits, feelings of worthlessness and forgetfulness among other signs (Pariat et al., 2014).

Transition: Now that we discussed the signs of stress, we will now talk about how you can help a person manage stress.

  • You do not need to be a professional psychiatrist to help your colleagues cope up with stress. You only need to do something small that can make a difference in the life of that person (Thawabieh, & Qaisy, 2012).
  1. You can tell that person that you feel encouraged when you see him/her go about with his/her studies.
  2. After a lecture, you can tell that person that you enjoyed sitting next to him/her.
Conclusion
  1. Now, I would like to close with the following statements.
  2. We have specifically looked at stress from a general viewpoint, its signs and how to manage it.
  • I hope that I have successfully informed you about stress and how to manage it.
  1. The next time you see a stressed up person, you should be able to help him/her to cope up with it.
