Donald Trump during his campaigns made a strong comment that when he sits in office, he will build a wall on the boarder of Mexico in order to prevent immigrants from invading the US. This has always been a dream of many politicians because they believe that it is the only way in which they can prevent illegal immigrants from entering the US from the southward points. However, some Republican and academic politicians believe that the concept of building a wall will not be effective because the illegal immigrants will continue looking for ways to enter the nation. It may reduce the number of the immigrants, but not eliminate them.
In this case, the artifact is the wall which is a physical blockade which is intended to be used as a blockade to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the nation. The reality is that people cannot pass through a wall and this seems to be an effective idea. However, it is important to put into consideration the amount of money that will be used to construct an entire wall in the southward points in the US. There is a probability that this will affect the economy of the nation. It is not clear whether the boarder wall will help solve the problem, but Trump believes that it is the easiest way to prevent not only illegal immigrants from Mexico, but also block them from bringing drugs in the nation (Jacobs, 2015).
The issue of building the wall had been explored under the government of George Bush which found that mere fencing presented several legal issues majority of which having to do with the existence of important animals (Nachemson, 2015).. The government has to take this into consideration because of the importance of sustainability and conservation of wild life. On the other hand, majority of the lands along the border between the south point in Mexico and US are owned by Indians who are not willing to sale them. This will act as an additional legal obstacle to building the wall which will occupy their lands.
Trump believes that the border wall will be the greatest immigration reform. He therefore does not agree with the ideas of open borders, cheap labor and amnesty because he argues that they are the reasons why the number of illegal immigrants in the nation has increased. It means that the wall will also help to reduce the level of crimes in the nation. In the recent weeks, there have been headlines in the news about cases of criminals that came to the US illegally through the south and ended up committing serious crimes against the Americans (Brand, 2015).
There have been reports about an illegal immigrant who came into the nation through the south and ended up breaking into a home, killing a 64 year old woman using a hammer. On the other hand, the Government Accountability Office realized that about 3 million immigrants from Mexico had been arrested because of several crimes such as murders, rapes and violent beatings (Nachemson, 2015).
The only way to stop Mexico from benefiting from bad or illegal trade with the US would be to build the wall to act as a barrier between the two nations. Only powerful individuals with great influence will be able to illegally get into the nation but not through the open borders. Real reforms in immigration require that the needs of the people be put first and not that of the wealthy donors (Trump, n.d). For a long period, the immigrant system has placed the needs of the immigrants ahead of their own, but this can change with the help of the wall at the south.
The wall at the border will make the nation to focus more on the needs of its people rather than fighting the illegal immigrants or trying to help them in one way or another. If this issue is looked at in this way then Trump thoughts and words regarding building a boarder wall will not be considered as discriminatory but a way out to solve several issues that the US has been facing. On the other hand, some people have argued that the border wall will be costly but the cost cannot be compared to what the taxpayers in America are spending annually to deal with fallout caused by the illegal Mexicans in the nation (Trump, n.d).
There has been a decline in employment rates because the immigrants have occupied most of the jobs while on the other hand filled communities and schools leading to shortage. It is high time that the US citizens have their right place and the only way to do this is by creating a wall that will act as a barrier between the two nations limiting any kind of illegal relationships. It means that Trump is right for pushing the border security using the wall. The wall will not only secure the nation against crimes, but also the citizens against opportunities that are being taken by the illegal immigrants (James, 2015). Trump’s ideas on the wall are therefore not absurd or in any way prejudiced because it is aimed at protecting the citizens of US.
