Chapter 13

Culture refers to constant observable patterns of behaviour in an organization. Culture is used in guiding employees when responding to unprecedented service requests in organization. In creation of specific company’s culture, it helps in determining the best strategy to apply to make all employees happy which would be reflected on their productivity level.

Transitional phase can be a very productive stage when an element of crisis has been eradicated. Essential elements that company need in employees during transactional stage could be capability and competency levels of individuals. This will enable the company to look beyond different capabilities of the employees and hence subsequently identify its strength and weaknesses.

Chapter 14

If a leader provides powerful, constant and positive role model, company employees are likely to follow the lead. A leader can be a better role model for the workers through demonstrating positive traits that the workers would observe and emulate. For instance being accountable which involves accepting personal responsibilities resulting from leader’s action. A leader can be a better role model through focusing on others indicating the servant leadership which other workers can emulate when relating to colleagues or customers. Additionally, a leader can be innovative and encourage creativity and also responding positively when solving management crisis.

There are challenges that leaders face when instituting change in the organization culture. First is cognitive where people must be made to understand the reasons behind and importance of change in organizational culture. Other difficulties are limited resource, motivation which is meant to make employees embrace change and finally institutional politics.

Chapter 15

Leadership is all about adaption hence it is inevitable for leaders to adapt to changes as the company grows. Leaders can adapt through changing one routine on a daily basis, taking different paths, and finally embracing new experiences through focusing on learning from everything.

Chapter 16

A leader can choose a good general manager through observing prior performances of individual candidates. Additionally, a leader can observe the candidates to determine whether they possess fundamental leadership qualities for them to be effective, for example, integrity, passion, courage, vision judgment empathy and emotional intelligence.
