Advances in technology are making multimedia communication a norm in business for communicating with customers and other external groups (Rao, Bojkovic & Milovanovic 2006, p.1). More businesses are using multimedia communication and presentation to communicate information on products, structure, and dynamic behavior of systems to customers and other stakeholders (Naratanan & Hegarty 2013, p. 2). While this has been the trend in the global scene, Oman has also embraced the use of multimedia communication, with different companies using multimedia communication in providing holistic digital experience to customers.
2.0 Anzyma and Omantel in Multimedia Communication
Largely, multimedia provides a holistic experience to customers, given that through it, customers can not only interact with the multimedia technology, but also get new and exciting information, as well as interact with the company (Rao, Bojkovic & Milovanovic 2006, p.1). Oman as a country has been instrumental in incorporating multimedia communication and presentation in its businesses and governance as evidenced by the Digital Oman master plan (Business Monitor International 2009, p. 5). The use of multimedia communication in Oman transcends governance and business-customer communication to include communication with investors through social media (Palanissamy 2014, p. 108).
Therefore, given the popularity of social media, many companies are taking to the tools as a means of investor relations. These companies use social media as a mean of disseminating information from the company to market participants, including customers, investors, and other stakeholders (Palanissamy 2014, p. 108). Thus, social media as a multimedia communication channel is taking a lead as a means of communication and engagement with investors.
One of the companies that have shown progress in the use of multimedia communication in Oman is Anzyma, a prominent digital solutions firm in the country. The company has rolled out the country’s biggest digital signage in Omantelmerchandizing outlets in the nation. The solution that Anzyma is providing for Omantel using the SCALA InfoChannel platform will allow the telecommunication company (Omantel) to appraise its marketing and promotional content in a short time (Zawya 2013). The multimedia presentation and communication technology offered by Anzyma allows the Omantel to observe the condition of its screens from a single location from its IT data center. The digital signage solution is currently present at all the telecommunication company’s outlets across the country, and offers an interactive merchandizing solution, helping retailing of mobile electronic products (Zawya 2013).
The multimedia communication tool therefore allows for smooth retailing of the telecommunication’s products, communication with clients and customers, and most importantly brings into effect a new form of advertising. Moreover, Digital Signage cuts the cost of advertising and communication in addition to offering a better return on investment (Zawya 2013). The communication aspect of the technology therefore provides more than just marketing and communication to customers, but is also a novel way of information delivery to the company’s employees in a more effective and dynamic method (Muscat Daily 2013).
3.0 Anzyma and Orpic in Multimedia Communication
Omantel is not the only company using Anzyma’s Digital Signage for communication with customers and stakeholders; Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Co have joined the bandwagon. Anzyma has rolled out the digital signage solution to Orpic’s three locations, in all the locations creating a network of screens installed in areas that include health, safety, canteen, and administration areas among others (Muscat Daily 2014). Through the collaboration, Orpic has been able to create knowledgeable employees as they are informed of the company’s activities, operations, environmental, and social enterprises (Muscat Daily 2014). Further, the multimedia communication channel allows for the delivery of the company’s internal communication across the company’s plants and locations at real time.
Through the technology, Orpic is capable of establishing real time interactive communication with employees across different locations and facilities. This is in addition to informing and updating the employees, stakeholders, and customers at all times. Even more is that with its global appeal and deployment, the SCALA software used by the digital signage provided by Anzyma to Orpic’s different locations and facilities allows for regular updates with photos, films, safety instruction, news tickers as well as other significant information (Muscat Daily 2014). By aligning, within its delivery, to the company’s objectives, the multimedia communication and presentation offered by the digital signage acts as a formal and informal platform through which the company communicates with its employees, customers and investors on its activities, giving these parties a wider knowledge and awareness of the company (Folino & Rafter 2010).
Good Multimedia presentation and communication leave a lasting effect on customers and other stakeholders. Through multimedia communication medium and channels, such as photos, videos, and social media, it is possible to spread customers’ knowledge of a company, and therefore build a reputation. Moreover, internal communication and communication to stakeholder is easier and more appealing through well-though-out multimedia communication. Anzyma, as a Digital Signage company, offers a lot to companies through its multimedia technology. It eases the communication burden to the companies, making it easy, fast, and interactive. Through these, companies can not only communicate with their investors, but also make employees and customers aware of the company’s direction in real time, as well as help in the advertisement to customers about the new goods and services offered by the company.
