The Implementation of the $15 Hour Minimum Wage for Workers

Problem Statement: Recently, there has been a problem on the acceptable minimum wage for workers in the various including the fast food and retailing industries.  The Wal-Mart workers have made their strong push for $15 wage per hour.  According to Lee and Saez (2012), the debates has intensified as the workers are calling for stable working hours and improved wages. Labor unions have criticized the move by retailer companies employing workers at low wages. Thus, the $15 hour minimum wages for employees would foster a transformation in the existing labor practices.

Analysis: I support the campaign for $ 15 hour minimum wage, as it would increase the disposable income available to the citizens. The various companies depends on the people to sale their products services. Thus, the increased wages would create business for the retailers due to the increased disposable income. Also, economic growth is usually maintained by the continuous consumer demands for goods and services. Giving the workers a raise is appropriate in sustaining economic performance and consumer demands in the economy. The debate on the minimum wage amount is a controversial bill that would see most of employees lose their jobs.  Most of the firms have argued that they cannot meet the proposed $15 hour minimum wage for the employees (Lee & Saez, 2012).

The minimum wage law would minimize the risk of workers falling into poverty.   According to Schmitt (2013), the minimum wage provisions should also be able to accommodate the concepts of compensation benefits resulting from emotional damages.  Today, companies do not compensate worker for traumatic experiences suffered at the workplace. Thus, I believe the implementation of the $15 hour minimum wage would be instrumental in boosting workers satisfaction in performing their duties and responsibilities. The politicians have relied on the $15 hour minimum wage legislation to show their support for improved living standards in the economy.

In addition, it is very challenging for the lowly paid workers to afford good living standards in the economy. The idea is appropriate in putting more money on the pockets of people. The passage of the bill in the house of parliament in Seattle sparked a hitted debate among the different states. In spite of implementing the proposal, the increased minimum wages would lead to employment problems (Schmitt, 2013). For instance, it has been noted that businesses are not ready to employs new workers at the current wage legislations, as it would increased the costs of operation. Thus, it would lead to adverse effects on employment among the workers.

Recommendations: I would recommend for the passage of legislation on the $15hour minimum wage for the workers. The major should consider setting the minimum wage in the city to promote good pay for the workers. The legislation should offer for temporary guaranteed compensation of $ 15 hour combined with heath care contributions, tips and employer-paid wages for the small organizations. On the other hand, the large organizations should be compelled to raise wages to $15 hour as well as offering health care services within the first three years (Lee & Saez, 2012). The provisions of the legislations should establish the penalties, remedies, and procedures for enforcement available. I also propose for the employers to create appropriate compensation schedules towards compensating the employees.
