The Mid-Southern district has a total population of 625,400 people, and it covers an area of approximately 850 sq km. The district constitutes about forty towns and villages, among them being alderman town, Woolen town, Coal town, etc. the district relies on its hospitals for healthcare advancement for its occupants. The district has poor economic conditions, as there are minimal growth sectors within it. However, some level of growth has been experienced in Alderman town in the recent years, where the local economy of the town is improving. Other towns neighboring Alderman town are faced with great challenges as a result of economic decline plus the by-pass of new jobs. Some towns e.g. coal and chemical towns are faced with the problem of unemployment, low wages, and a subsequent low-skill economy.
