Successful Sports Entrepreneur
Characteristics that are necessary for an individual to be a successful sports entrepreneur include the ability to do what he or she enjoys, taking his or her profession seriously, and possess the capacity to plan everything. Other characteristics are manage money wisely, handling the athletes with decorum, manage, effective time management, be a shameless self-promoter, the projection of a positive business image, know the athletes properly, embrace the latest technology, and build an exceptional athlete team. Additionally, other characteristics include being an expert, creation of a competitive advantage, invest in personal development, be accessible, build a strong reputation, grab attention, be involved, design the workplace for success, stay organized, and take time off (Entrepreneur, 2016).
Most importantly, I believe strongly that I have the qualities mentioned above in addition to being to making follow-ups constantly to ensure that the athletes perform their required exercises effectively. Hence, I possess these characteristics because I enjoy my profession and always strive to invest in my personal development through undertaking online courses that ensure that am abreast with the current knowledge in sports. I have also embraced technology in my profession, and I encourage my athletes to follow suit since it assists in training and achieving remarkable results. I have ensured that I have a mentor that guides me through my profession whereby he conducts a thorough evaluation of my objectives and how they assist my athletes. As a sports entrepreneur, I have ensured that I manage my time and money wisely since they are valuable assets that could build my profession further.
On the other hand, the Memphis Grizzles Foundation received the prestigious 2007 Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy since they had demonstrated leadership and excellence in national and community philanthropy (Ciletti & Chadwick, 2012). Subsequently, there are some things, which they did correctly to receive this reward, and they included the incorporation of a corporate philanthropy in their activities. Hence, the foundation ensured that it achieved its major objective of meeting its financial obligations and targets, which enabled them to give back to the communities. Ideally, giving back to the community is one of their key pillars since they have decided upon themselves that they have to make and saves the lives of the people in their community. Subsequently, they built up business and personal partnerships with like-minded proactive community firms where they offered their support in the endeavors that they pursued according to NBA Media Ventures (2014).
In addition, Grizzles’s employees worked in multiple community activities that benefitted the children in Memphis. They also worked in collaboration with their affiliate partners such as Memphis Grizzlies, Memphis Athletic Ministries, and Grizzlies Academy to ensure that their philanthropy objective was achieved to assist the children. They reached out to many families and children to participate in their youth mentoring programs in Memphis, which helped in transforming and uplifting their lives (Ciletti & Chadwick, 2012). In essence, the foundation was able to identify the pressing needs that the people in their communities had and developed numerous creative ways, which they could address them. Notably, the work of the foundation primarily focused on mentoring, health, and education for the youth in Memphis, which enabled them to receive the essential services that they lacked in their lives. In my opinion, the foundation could have done more through reaching out to other communities in different regions that were further from Memphis. Moreover, they would have focused on other integral aspects that affect the youth such as establishing centers to offer guidance against the challenges that affect the youth namely drug addiction, peer influence, and early pregnancy.
