Schneiderlin Scores in Debut as Man-U Whips Club America
Morgan Schneiderlin scored through a header in the fifth minute Friday night in his first appearance for Manchester United. His golden goal gave the team a step ahead of Mexican power Club America to finish 1-0 in an International Champions Cup match.
Schneiderlin joined the Red Devils on Monday on transfer from English Premier League team Southampton. He was also on the squad that took France to the 2014 World Cup and has been considered one of the two high profile players that have joined Man-U this week.
The Frenchman made good on Man-U’s first shot of the international friendly soccer match held at Century Link Field, Seattle. Scheinderlin made an impressive header into the right upper corner from a corner kick cleared towards the penalty area.
‘’We have practiced with him, and I was pleased a lot by his performance,’’ United Manager Louis Van Gaal.
Starting his second season as Man-U coach, Van Gaal played one group in the entire first half, then introduced a new 11 for the whole of the second half in the first pre-season match for the team.
Another new signing, Bastian Schweinsteiger, who spent 13 years at Bayern Munich and played for Germany in last year’s World Cup, also played his first game with Manchester United through the entire second half.
‘’Our first 45 minutes, I wanted to see the way we organize our defensive. We did not give any goals away only gave up one or two chances, so I am satisfied with that,’’ he added. ‘’Club America is quite handy with the ball, fast and aggressive so it was not very easy. However, we are happy that all the players did what they had to do in our philosophy, and I am happy that we won.’’
However, Club America had two opportunities to create a tie later in the game.
